Requirements

  • Android 7.0 or later. There is no iPhone version.
  • A front camera for intruder photos, and motion and proximity sensors for the alarms (every modern phone has them).
  • A Google account if you want Remote Access, cloud backup of intruder photos, or the device intruder alert. The alarms and the app lock work without an account and without internet.

Permissions you will be asked for

Alert24 explains each permission on screen as it asks. Every one has a job, and most are optional: skip one and the related feature stays off. See the full list in permissions explained.

  • Display over other apps: the full-screen alarm and the PIN screen that stops it.
  • Camera: the silent intruder photo. Never used without a trigger.
  • Location, including Allow all the time: the address on intruder photos, trusted places, and answering Locate while the screen is off.
  • Battery optimisation exception and auto-start: so Android does not stop the alarm service in the background.
  • Phone state: to pause alarms while you are on a call.
  • Device admin: to notice wrong unlock attempts and unlocks for the intruder selfie and Phone Access Snap.

Next: your first alarm

    Install and set your passcode

    Choose a PIN, pattern or knock code. It is the only thing that stops an alarm.

    Allow the permissions

    Go through the list above. You can change any of them later in Settings.

  3. 3

    Tap Activate

    Pick Don't Touch My Phone, tap Activate, and put the phone down. After a 10-second countdown it is armed. Full walkthrough in getting started.
