Ringing the phone helps when it is close. Locating it gives you one point on a map. Device Lost mode is for the hours and days after that, when the phone is in someone else's hands and you need to know who, where and when. You switch it on from alert24.in or from Alert24 on another phone, and the lost phone quietly collects evidence until you mark it found.
As with every remote command, the phone must be switched on and connected to receive the lost status. Once it has received it, the mode keeps running on the phone even while it is offline; the photos upload the next time it connects.
What lost mode does on the phone
Photo on every screen-on and unlock
Each time someone wakes the screen or unlocks the phone, the front camera takes a photo with no preview and no sound.
Photo every 30 minutes
While the phone stays lost, it takes another photo on a 30-minute schedule, so you get updates even if nobody touches it.
Location with every photo
Each photo is saved with the time, the coordinates and the street address, when location is available. Those places also appear in Location History.
How to turn it on and off
You need Remote Access already turned on in the app on the phone, and a Premium subscription to open the Remote Access screen.

Sign in on the web or another phone
Open Remote Access on alert24.in in any browser, or Alert24 on another phone, with the Google account you use in the app.

Select the lost phone
Pick it from the device list. It should show as online. If it shows offline, you can still mark it lost; the phone will pick the status up when it reconnects.

Mark it lost
Open Device Lost in the toolbar and tap Mark My Phone Lost. You will see a confirmation that the status was updated.

Check the Device Lost card
Photos appear under the Device Lost card, newest first, each with its time and address. Give the phone a few minutes after the first unlock for the upload.

Mark it found when it is back
Use the same menu and tap Mark My Phone Found. On the phone itself, the app shows a Device Lost prompt when you open it; answer Yes to clear the status there.
What you will see
Each entry is one photo with the moment it was taken. Open it to see the full image, the capture type, the time and the address with a small map; View in Maps opens the place in Google Maps. Photos taken without location (for example if the phone was indoors with no fix) show the photo and the time only.
The photos are stored under your Google account. Free accounts see the first five photos per category in remote views; Premium shows them all. The phone keeps up to 100 photos in the cloud and removes older ones after that, so download the useful ones early.

Frequently asked questions
Does the person holding the phone notice anything?
No. The photos are taken with no shutter sound and no preview, and lost mode adds no visible message on the phone. If you also want the phone to be loud, use Find My Device to ring it.
Does lost mode lock or erase the phone?
No. Alert24 does not lock or wipe phones. For that, use Google's Find My Device, which is built into Android. Alert24 works alongside it and adds the photos and the evidence.
What if the phone is offline when I mark it lost?
The status waits in the cloud. When the phone reconnects and the Alert24 service is running, it enters lost mode and starts taking photos. Photos taken while offline are uploaded when the phone next has internet.
Will the 30-minute photo drain the battery?
It is one quick front-camera capture every half hour. Location lookups use the phone's normal location services. It is a small cost compared with getting the phone back.
How do I stop lost mode from the phone itself?
Open Alert24 on the phone. It shows a Device Lost prompt; tap Yes to clear the status. You can also clear it from the web or another phone with Mark My Phone Found.
